WHERE I COME FROM
Dr. Faris Farassati has had the honor of representing the people of Overland Park at the City Council since May, 2017 as a councilman.
Dr. Farassati is also a prominent cancer scientist and a virologist at the Kansas City Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He received his PhD from the University of Calgary, School of Medicine and completed his Post-Doctoral fellowship training at the Harvard Medical School and Mayo Clinic.
His research includes finding novel therapies for cancers of brain, liver, breast and pancreas as well as a novel treatment against Covid-19. His previous appointments include Associate Professor of Medicine at The University of Kansas Medical School (2008-2015) and the Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of Minnesota Medical School (2005-2008).
Faris was granted Permanent Residency to the United States by the Department of Homeland Security, US Immigration & Citizenship Services under the category of “Extraordinary Ability” for his achievements in advancing medical sciences. He was honored to receive US citizenship in 2015 at Fort Scott, Kansas.

He has been married for 25 years. His wife is an Associate Professor of Medicine at KU and is a gastroenterologist at the KU Heath System. They are proud parents of their two beautiful children. His favorite quote is by Abraham Lincoln:
